Robyn Barnsdale's Spotify playlist & inspiration
This playlist is inspired by Detroit’s rich musical culture. Hailing from the birthplace of Motown & Techno, I felt an immense need to try and cultivate an eclectic playlist that includes R&B, rock, pop, punk, soul, electronic, and hip hop, and everything in between. All musicians in this playlist are Michigan native, and each song is an instant classic in my opinion.
What do you love about your city?
What do you love the most about the city? I’m in true awe of how far our city has come over the last 15+ years in regards to our culinary resurgence. A new restaurant/bar opens monthly with acclaimed chefs & mixologists moving here from all major cities from around the world. We were even named one of six unexpected cities for the food lover by National Geographic. I couldn’t be more proud to live here & to be a part of the hospitality community.
Tell us about the inspiration for the drink? I decided to go with this riff off of a “Jungle Bird” as its not only a favorite of mine to consume in a dimly lit tiki bar or two around Detroit. But also, as I recently read “An ideal Jungle Bird delivers an initial bitter-funk hit that’s simultaneously challenging and bewitching” & to me that feels like the perfect depiction of spending a night out in Detroit.
