Inspiration:

When I was growing up in Michigan, Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday. The table we only used for special occasions was full of dishes from every visiting household’s contributions to the holiday dinner. It became an unintentional tradition as a family to have at least two overloaded dinner plates followed by watching A Christmas Story and sometimes a nap every year. As much as I love the entrees, dessert was always my favorite as a kid. The pies, ice creams, and chocolate specifically. When I made this drink, I made sure to incorporate those desert elements into the cocktail.

The drink is a play-off of a staple dessert here in Michigan: Moose tracks. Moose Tracks is vanilla ice cream, peanut butter cups, and fudge. Fudge is a big thing in Michigan, and fruit pies were another childhood favorite around holiday times. I decided to use Jagermeister Cold Brew because it reminded me how the adults would always end the holiday night talking over a fresh pot of coffee. The Cold Brew works well in this cocktail because it adds dark, sweet notes, which play very well into this dessert cocktail.

 Detroit, Mich

I’m from Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Austin, Texas in 2012 where I got started in the industry. The first bar I worked at had a small cocktail program which started my interest in the craft. I’ve been lucky enough to work at a variety of bars in town since then, all specializing in different spirits and approaches to hospitality. During quarantine, I left Austin and spent time driving around the country before making it back to Detroit. I have worked at a few bars since I’ve been back and I’m currently the head bartender at a great bar in Detroit.

What Does Hospitality Mean To You Matt?

Hospitality to me is giving every customer the best experience possible, whatever the venue. It’s rewarding to have real connections with strangers over the bar over any point of mutual interest , even outside of any bar-related items, whether it’s music, sports, or travel. The guest may only come to your bar once in their lives, so why not make it a memorable experience they can pass on to others?
