Tell us the inspiration behind the recipe.

The dish is inspired by my love of BBQ and fusing different cultures together. Germans have been smoking meats since the beginning of time and fusing a traditional BBQ dish with Jägermeister Original was a no brainer.

Tell us why Jägermeister Cold Brew or Jägermeister Original works in the recipe.

Jägermeister Original works wonderfully with pork belly BBQ baked beans due to its intriguing blend of 56 different herbs, spices, and botanicals. The herbal liqueur enhances the dish by contributing a complex and aromatic flavor profile that complements the rich, smoky notes of the pork belly. Its slight sweetness harmonizes with the brown sugar and molasses used in the recipe, striking a perfect balance between sweet and savory. The inclusion of Jägermeister in the sauce imparts a unique depth of flavor to the beans, infusing them with a captivating blend of herbal and spicy undertones. This unconventional ingredient elevates the traditional baked beans to a new level, adding a touch of sophistication and creativity. The result is a delightful fusion of tastes, where the distinctive characteristics of Jägermeister enhance the overall dining experience, making it a standout and memorable dish for any occasion.

I love San Francisco because it's a place that encourages individuals to be comfortable with who they are, and I love the ‘live and let live’ attitude. The diversity of the people and the ability to find any type of ethnic cuisine is second to none.

The inspiration behind the cocktail creation.

I wanted to bring a little of my Southern roots to the recipe, while also honoring my love for SF. The woody-smoked aspect conjures memories of home, camping in the woods by an old tobacco field or taking in the plume of a barbecue pit, while also reminding me of the passing smell of bonfires along Ocean Beach, San Francisco, in the Outer Sunset. I wanted the sage in the blackberry honey to reflect the earthy green aromatics that, to me, are so specifically present in San Francisco’s parks, and in the Bay Area, that I haven’t experienced anywhere else. A cocktail for the nomads and cosmic cowboys & cowgirls, I wanted the drink to taste like a summer barbecue by an old fishin' hole in Elizabethtown, NC, or on Ocean Beach in SF, watching the sun set in pinks and gold.



Cocktail Name: Cosmic Cowboy

Bartender Name: Chason Huggins

Recipe:

    • 1.5 parts Jägermeister
    • .5 part London dry gin
    • 1 part smoked blueberry-sage honey syrup
    • .5 part lime juice & pinch of salt

Garnish: Pick a fresh blackberry and garnish alongside two fresh sage leaves for garnish

Method: To create the smoked blackberry-sage honey, combine 1000ml blackberries, 1000ml raw honey, 700ml water & 30 fresh sage leaves in pot. Crush blackberries and other ingredients to help macerate for 10 minutes, then bring to boil at medium high heat. After boiling, reduce syrup for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. While still in pot, or by pouring ingredients in heat safe metal container, use smaller flame safe metal container, and adding woodchips, torch chips with handheld propane torch until they begin to smoke. Cover ingredients and allow them to smoke, hitting the chips 4-5 times over an hour to continue the process. Once smoked, strain syrup with a fine strainer.

Tips & Tricks

Combine ingredients in shaker tin, shake, double strain over crushed ice in collins glass.

I grew up in a small Southern town in North Carolina and have lived in San Francisco on and off since 2010. I moved to the Bay to study studio art, and after graduating and aimless wandering, eventually fell in love with another way to be creative, behind the bar! I love making people happy with a drink, especially if it has a story, be it Southern ingredients inspired by my roots, or a perfect combination fitting someone’s craving. The culture of creating joy with drink means so much to me and I feel lucky to be a part of it. Outside of the bar, I also love archery, hunting, country music and dirty south hip-hop, and honestly spending time with friends and family whenever possible. Cheers!
